When you're on the job you need a flashlight that's tough and bright, but doesn't get in the way. The Leatherman Monarch 500 LED Flashlight is constructed of hard-anodized aluminum so it's as durable as stainless steel but only weights 3.5 ounces - fitting easily in a pocket or belt system. Comments: This torch is awesome, I have a 4 cell Maglite with a Cree 3 watt LED and I actually prefer the Monarch 500 as there is more side ilumination. At a distance of about 50 metres there is very little difference between the two torches but it almost seems as if the Monarch's spot is a little whiter. Of course the Maglite has the edge for continual use with 4 D cells compared to 2 AA's but how often will you need hours worth of continous light? The Monarch I can slip into my pocket and have it handy at all times unlike the Maglite. Both have it's uses but to me the small size and weight of the 500 means it will there whenever it's needed. The only thing lacking is a belt pouch to carry the torch, something for Leatherman to maybe consider as I would gladly pay extra for a quality pouch. |

Comments: I am always looking for the perfect sub-$100 quality AA LED flashlight, in-stores and online. Like most American males, I must own dozens of handheld flashlights that I have purchased through the years. With LED technology improving on an almost daily basis, I am constantly replacing my everyday work flashlight with the "new & improved" model. My latest addition to my collection is this Leatherman model. Good battery life, very bright beam, and solid construction are some of it's best virtues. My only concerns are the slight rattling noise coming from the 2 AA batteries, the hard-to-push on/off button, and it's blue-ish light color (not that unusual from most LED flashlights). Overall, this is an excellent everyday flashlight that I am proud to own. |

Comments: I am very happy with this well made AA LED flashlight. This excellent flashlight falls right into the sweet spot of advance flashlight design. I consider myself as a flashlight expert since I am always (and I really mean "always") looking for the my next "better mousetrap" in flashlight design wherever I may be shopping. Like most American males, flashlights have a special place in our hearts and while my wife might be browsing the shoe and bag aisles, I will be doing the man thing by looking at all the different flashlights a store might offer. Well, I finally found the perfect low cost (under $50) professional type AA flashlight. This Leatherman product has everything that I look for in modern flashlight design (ie, AA for low cost use, LED for longevity, slim shape to fit the pocket and tool bag, easy one push operation, bright with a strong beam, heavy-duty yet elegant in appearance). It is amazingly hard to find a great AA flashlight that you can use for work and play that you can feel proud of and that turns on everytime you want it to without hesitation... and doesn't burn a big hole in your wallet. IMHO, I have finally found it. |

Comments: This flashlight is the best I've ever had! When it came in the mail, I said to myself, ""How can this be useful? It's so small." Well, as soon as I turned it on I found out. It's lightweight and easy to use and emits an intense and powerful light. It made me think of the multiple ways I can use it! I use it at night, in dark areas like my basement crawl space, during blackouts (much better than candles!)and to look behind things where I usually can't see at all (like my refrigerator or behind my dryer for example). It makes the entire area visible. It's amazing! There's nothing negative about this flashlight. |
